Are Christians Better than Everyone Else?

Unfortunately Christians are often guilty of portraying this image. In reality, we are not better than anyone else, we are all sinners.

Rom 3:22b - 23 For there is no difference, for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God...

What followers of Christ know is that we are forgiven. God says that sin requires payment of its debt. The only payment acceptable is the blood shed by a perfect sacrifice. The Bible says that Jesus Christ, God in human form substituted Himself as payment for our sins.

continuing with Romans 3:24-28 By his grace they are justified freely through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God offered as a place where atonement by Christ's blood could occur through faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because he had waited patiently to deal with sins committed in the past. He wanted to demonstrate at the present time that he himself is righteous and that he justifies the person who has the faithfulness of Jesus. What, then, is there to boast about? That has been eliminated. On what principle? On that of works? No, but on the principle of faith. For we maintain that a person is justified by faith apart from the works prescribed by the law.

Perhaps you do not know that the word used by Jesus from the cross in which He said "It is finished", is a Greek word which was used when a debtor's loan was paid off in full by someone else, so that the debtor could be released from prison. Christians are not better, just forgiven and in this forgiveness we seek to help others find the same forgiveness.

There is another aspect of this question. Sometimes what the world views as "being better" is really a confidence from understanding "Truth". In this modern world, Truth has taken its licks. But there is absolute Truth and it can be known. I can tell you that you can go into the third world countries and find people who will tell you that whatever you describe as electricity does not exist. The evidence that you might demonstrate to them would be interpreted as spirits or gods working "magic". Within their culture and knowledge your electricity does not exist. Your explanations are lies. The fact that they believe this does not make electricity cease to exist. The fact that they do not believe in electricity does nothing to diminish its reality. God is just as real as electricity. The fact that some may deny Him does not affect His Truth. For someone who does not know God in a personal way (His way), His Truth may not be believed or accepted, but for someone who has truly experienced His saving grace and redemptive power, there can be no doubt that He is real. It can be the confidence that comes from this faith, based on experience that is misinterpreted by unbelievers.
